Founded in 1994, the Okavango Research Institute (ORI) is a research institute dedicated to the study of wetland and watershed management in the Okavango River Basin, SADC region and beyond. The multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary of the Institute, together with its emphasis on the sustainable use and development of the Okavango River Basin and other wetlands and watersheds in the region, makes it not only an important facility of the University of Botswana, but also for the region. Since inception, the institute has established a strong record in research and publications and has contributed significantly in initiating, coordinating and promoting research and environmental monitoring in the Okavango River Basin.
