Eco-certification
Botswana Ecotourism Certification Program, which covers more than 250 standards encompassing the following : environmental management, cultural resources protection and community development, socio-economic responsibilities and fundamental ecotourism criteria.
The standards are distributed across three tiers, including a ‘Green’, ‘Green+’ and ‘Ecotourism’ level enabling the program to embrace all tourism products in Botswana.
The aim of ecotourism certification is to foster responsible environmental, social and cultural practices by tourism businesses and provide an eco-friendly product to consumers by establishing voluntary quality performance levels which meet or exceed basic environmentally responsible standards or legislation. Once established, the certified tourism operations will collectively contribute to positioning Botswana as a leading environmentally responsible destination in Africa.
